Azarenka: ‘I miss the competition, I’m confident I’ll be back pretty soon’

The long pregnancy for Victoria Azarenka is near to end. The Former World No. 1 will give birth for the first time in her life in a few weeks, and interviewed by Tennis Channel she spoke about the process she went through and what she did since she stopped playing on the WTA Tour. Azarenka was very active: until six weeks ago she played tennis and did physical training, and at the same time studied economics and business law at the University of California, Los Angeles, in order to have an off-court job after her tennis career, that is not ended yet.

Yes, because Azarenka aims to come back as soon as possible: ‘I miss the fans‘, she admitted. ‘I miss that moment when you go on the court and it’s a go time. As a competitor, I have to find that edge in life. I’ve been able to translate that into my studies for now, but that competitive edge is definitely something I’m missing. I don’t feel I’m missing out on someting I won’t be able to do again. For me, it’s about getting to where I want to be and be back there again. That’s my ultimate goal. I’m confident that I’ll be able to play tennis again pretty soon.

Her life in the last six months has been very different than the last decade or so: ‘I’m doing a lot of activities I didn’t have time to do before; being at home and sleeping in my own bed is really a luxury for a traveling athlete.’

Vika enjoyed this new chapther in her life: ‘Tennis is my career, but there’s a different part of life. This was a blessing, a gift from God.’
