Tennis – The ‘Pibe de Oro’ spoke about the admiration he has for Novak and Roger
Diego Armando Maradona is a great tennis fan. We saw him celebrating in a crazy way Argentina’s Davis Cup title over Croatia in Zagreb, but in the past he has also attended events like the ATP Finals in 2013, where he met Roger Federer for the first time ever.
Interviewed by the Serbian website B92, Maradona said that according to him the Swiss player was the number one in the list of greatest players of all time, but admitted at the same time that Djokovic was a phenomenon.
Maradona especially admires the sacrifices that Nole had to do during his childhood, hoping to become a top player on the ATP Tour: ‘I met Nole in Abu Dhabi years ago when he was fourth, fifth or seventh, but you could see that he could be the no. 1. We spent the whole day playing football and tennis. He said me that when he was a kid, he had to choose in which side of the city he had to train, in the one where there weren’t bombs, and that’s amazing. I always speak about it.’
They admire each other: ‘He had asked me for an autographed t-shirt through an Argentinian journalist, but he didn’t know that I wanted him to sign a t-shirt for me!’
