The autumn is here and reminds me of one traditional meal from one of the Balkan countries. The sweet rice or sweet pudding (both are used) is a dessert that is cooked everywhere and there are many different recipes for preparing it, with coconut, with nuts, Turkish rice pudding with vanilla pudding etc.
The cold weather remind me to prepare it as soon as I can 🙂 Yum, yum, yum.
The following recipe is for 8 people.
Ingredients that are needed:
*1 cup of water
*1 cup of rice
*4 cups milk
*1 cup Sugar
*one pack of vanilla sugar
First bring water to boil. Add the rice and the cinnamon stick.
Cover and simmer 16 minutes, or until tender.
Meanwhile, add milk and sugar to a pot and cook until hot and the sugar dissolves when whisked.
When the rice is tender, add the milk mixture to the rice andcCook at a gentle simmer until thickened enough to stand a spoon up into it.
It starts out impossibly soupy…But patience (and 30-45 minutes) will lead to good, good things.
Garnish with cinnamon, lemon zest, raisins, and – or – almonds.
With this dessert you can add a cup of apple -cinnamon tea.
